L-Lysine

This necessary supplement is an essential amino acid, meaning the body does not produce it. L-lysine must be obtained through diet or supplementation and it is an essential component of all proteins.

L-Lysine

I began taking L-lysine while on my initial 28 Day Cleanse, according to the Medical Medium book by Anthony William. This amino acid impairs the ability of the shingles virus cells to move and reproduce. Because I was targeting the shingles virus, which had attacked my sciatic nerves, this supplement was crucial to me.

I continue to take it.

L-lysine also lowers the Epstein Barr Virus load. By inhibiting and reducing the EBV viral load, this amino acid acts as an anti-inflammatory to the entire nervous system, especially the vagus and phrenic nerves, which get targeted by the virus’s neurotoxins.

L-lysine helps to support the immune system by developing antibodies. And its antiviral properties also protect against the herpes virus. L-lysine reduces anxiety, plays an integral part in protein biosynthesis and works with the amino acids glycine and proline to build collagen, improving skin, bones, muscles and connective tissue.

For those on a plant based diet, like me, lysine can be found in lima beans and potatoes. I consume a lot of potatoes, however, it’s good to know I can support my body’s healing by taking L-lysine!

Dates

Before becoming plant based, my only association with this sweet fruit was holiday baking. I used to make date balls, rolled in shredded coconut, as a Christmas treat. I’ve learned, however, that dates deserve year around attention.

Dates

Dates grow in huge clusters just underneath the date palm’s fronds. These trees can be found in warm regions like California and Florida, but they are particularly prolific in the Middle East, where dates have long been a staple food. There are many varieties of dates.

This fruit is amazing for the digestive system. Dates bind onto, destroy and sweep away parasites, mold, yeast, fungus, heavy metals, bacteria, viruses and other poisonous pathogens in the gut. They help to kill Candida while restoring peristaltic function in the intestines.

Dates deliver vital glucose to the liver and their high potassium and fruit sugar content refuels the brain and muscles after exercise. Rich in bioactive minerals, 70 of them, dates support the adrenal glands, helping the body handle life’s stresses. They are also one of the most heart healthy foods available, due to their amino acids.

Dates

Dates sustain and fortify muscles and nerves, and stop lactic acid from taking over the body when it’s under stress. They expel excessive dampness from organs such as the liver and spleen and they are full of anti-cancer properties. (Information from Life Changing Foods by Anthony William. Order your copy below.)

My favorite thing about dates is their versatility. They make a perfect grab and go snack. Partner them with apple slices and celery sticks and this healthy snack is great to take along on a walk or hike, as this combo energizes the body while supporting the adrenals.

Pulsed in a food processor, dates form the basis for pie crusts, apricot bars, and granola. They can be added to sauces, soups and smoothies. As a special treat, blend them with a small amount of water and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon for a wonderful dipping sauce for apples.

I have come to appreciate this simple but powerful little fruit. I keep a bag or two of dates on hand for a quick snack, tea time or to add to recipes. Their sweetness helps to satisfy cravings when first eliminating sugar from the diet. They have been essential for Greg, for that reason.

Anthony includes an Emotional Support section for each of the 50 foods in his book, along with a Spiritual Lesson. I like what he writes about dates:

“Eating dates can put up a shield around you, providing protection from people who feel jealousy toward you. And while you sleep, they help to release your own stored up toxic emotions – such as fearfulness, shame, demoralization, and the sense of being judged, wronged, or bullied. Ultimately, dates strengthen your sense of purpose so you can be at your most productive and enthusiastic.”

More excellent reasons to include dates daily, in a healthy diet!

Cauliflower Fried Rice

I have seen fresh cauliflower used as a rice substitute before, but until recently I had never tried it. This delicious recipe from Thyroid Healing by Anthony William was just the inspiration I needed to make my first batch of cauliflower rice.

Cauliflower Fried Rice

A food processor is needed for this recipe.

Cauliflower Fried Rice

This was a fun recipe to make, and easy to do. I diced the veggies using a small processor and when those were prepared, popped the cauliflower into the large food processor and pulsed. The cauliflower immediately breaks down into small pieces the size of grains of rice. Next time I make this recipe, and I will definitely make it again, I will process half of the cauliflower at a time, for more uniform “rice”.

I had everything thing prepped before heating the oil, including mixing the sauce ingredients. I combined the diced onion with the other veggies and that worked out fine. I added the peas when I added the cauliflower rice, since they cook so quickly.

In a few minutes, I had a hot, freshly prepared meal with lots of nutritious vegetables. This time I omitted the jalapeños, almonds and sesame seeds. That’s the beauty of this recipe…any veggies can be added to the stir fry and other healthy toppings can be used, according to preference. I had a lone organic zucchini in the fridge that I needed to use, so I diced it up and included it in the stir fry.

This dish can easily be prepared and eaten raw. Simply mix all the ingredients together, without cooking, and allow the rice and veggies to marinate in the sauce for half an hour or so. I tried a spoonful of the cauliflower rice before cooking it and it was tender and just as tasty.

This recipe goes into my “keep” file!
